Bismuth Metal and Alloys

Bismuth is a brittle metal which is silvery in color with a pink tinge. It is stable in air and water. It has poor thermal and electrical properties and finds applications in the manufacture of fusible alloys, a range of materials with low melting points which are suitable for various applications including solders and thermal fuses. Pure bismuth shows a high absorbtion of gamma rays which makes it useful as a filter or window for these particles, whilst at the same time permitting the passage of neutrons.

ATT provides Bismuth metal and selenium compounds including:Bismuth metal powder, particle, block, plate, ingot, selenium sputtering target, etc. Purity: 2N to 7N5.

Bismuth is the most diamagnetic element, and its thermal conductivity is lower than any metal except mercury. Bismuth is the most diamagnetic of all metals, and the thermal conductivity is lower than any metal except mercury. It has a high electrical resistance, and has the highest Hall effect of any metal (that is, the greatest increase in electrical resistance when placed in a magnetic field). Bismuth is stable to oxygen and water but dissolves in concentrated nitric air. All bismuth salts form insoluble compounds when put into water.
