Erbium Fluoride (ErF3) is an extremely useful form of erbium for applications in optics, electronics and materials science. It has been found to act as an efficient solid-state laser material and has even been used in the fabrication of erbium-doped optical fibers for long distance communications. As with other fluoride materials, ErF3 is a highly reactive material. Therefore, it is often used as an evaporation material.
