Nickel Oxide (NiO) is an inorganic compound used as an evaporation material, which is most commonly employed in processes that require either the deposition or protection of metal or semiconductor surfaces. It is a black crystalline material that is available in flake, powder or pressed pellet form. It has a favorable stoichiometric balance of oxygen and nickel, allowing for greater control over the oxidation level and reaction of the surface. The material is highly stable at high temperatures and has excellent thermodynamic and electrical properties. Its primary application is as a barrier layer in semiconductor processing, acting as a resistive single crystal layer to prevent oxidation of the device layers. It is also used in optical coatings, where it can be used to enhance the performance of reflective and anti-reflection or conductive surfaces.
