Product Code : EM-Yb2O3-5N-Cu
Ytterbium oxide, also known as Yb2O3, is a compound commonly used as an evaporation material. It is used in many optical and electro-optic coatings, often in combination with other materials.
Yb2O3 can be evaporated in a wide range of temperatures and environments, including high vacuum and low vacuum. When evaporated in high vacuum, Yb2O3 has a very low vapor pressure, which helps to minimize the rate of condensation onto the substrate. In low vacuum, it has a higher vapor pressure and condenses at a faster rate.
When evaporated in high vacuum, Yb2O3 forms a stoichiometric film with a hardness of 8-9 on the Mohs scale. It is chemically and thermally stable, and does not degrade easily.
Yb2O3 is an excellent choice for optical coatings because of its ability to absorb light in various spectra, including UV and IR. It is also a highly reflective material, which makes it useful for specialty mirror or beam splitter coatings.
