Zirconium oxide (ZrO2) is an evaporative material used for a number of industrial and manufacturing applications. ZrO2 is a white crystalline powder composed of zirconium and oxygen atoms. Its high melting point and low thermal expansion make it useful for conduction of thermal energy. It also has excellent electrical insulation properties at high temperatures and is highly corrosion resistant in a variety of etching and cleaning processes. Additionally, the chemical stability of zirconium oxide makes it suitable for use in a variety of chemical applications.

ZrO2 is most commonly used in electronics and in the manufacture of semiconductor components, where it can be evaporated onto a substrate as a coating material very quickly and efficiently. By evaporating ZrO2, it forms an inert protective layer that helps protect the underlying components from contamination and physical damage. It has excellent dielectric properties and is used in the manufacture of electronic components such as capacitors. ZrO2 is also used as a light reflective coating in laser systems, spectroscopy and holography, and as a protective topcoat for optical elements. In the medical field, it is also used for dental prosthetics and endodontics.
