(7N) 99.9999% Selenium Metal,High Purity MBE Grade Se, Selenium Metal (Se Metal), High Purity Selenium

Product Code : HP-Se-7N-CU

Selenium exists in several allotropic forms; red selenium is monoclinic and contains Se‘ rings. It has a melting point of 180C and a relative density of 4.45. The grey (metallic) form of selenium is formed when other varieties are heated to 200C; this has a melting point of 220C and a relative density of 4.80. Selenium is widely distributed, mainly as the selenides of heavy metals, but only has an abundance of 0.05 ppm in the earth's crust. The metal burns in air and is unaffected by water. It is soluble in alkalis and concentrated nitric acid. The electrical properties of selenium are of particular interest as it is both photovoltaic (i.e. it becomes an electrical conductor when exposed to light or ultra violet radiation) and photoconductive (i.e. the electrical conductivity increases with increasing illumination). These properties mean that selenium has applications in the electronics industry (e.g. in the manufacture of photoelectric cells and solar cells). Selenium is an important trace element for humans, the average body containing approximately 14 mg.

ATT manufactures 6N 99.9999% Selenium for advanced optical and electronics applications. High purity selenium pieces, powder, and other forms can serve as precursor materials for the MBE growth of semiconductor crystals such as cadmium selenide (CdSe), lead selenide (PbSe), zinc selenide (ZnSe), copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS), and other selenides. These materials are used primarily in thin film solar cells and LEDs/OLEDs, particularly as quantum dots (QDs). Ultra high purity selenium is also used as an ingredient in some health supplements and beauty products. We also manufacture selenium in other purities and forms, ATT provides selenium metal and selenium compounds including:Selenium metal powder, particle, block, plate, ingot, selenium sputtering target, etc. Purity: 3N to 7N.

The biggest use of selenium is as an additive to glass. Some selenium compounds decolourise glass, while others give a deep red colour. Selenium can also be used to reduce the transmission of sunlight in architectural glass, giving it a bronze tint. Selenium is used to make pigments for ceramics, paint and plastics. Selenium has both a photovoltaic action (converts light to electricity) and a photoconductive action (electrical resistance decreases with increased illumination). It is therefore useful in photocells, solar cells and photocopiers. It can also convert AC electricity to DC electricity, so is extensively used in rectifiers. Selenium is toxic to the scalp fungus that causes dandruff so it is used in some anti-dandruff shampoos. Selenium is also used as an additive to make stainless steel.

Applications of High Purity Selenium

Selenium Metal is used in the preparation of toner cartridges, optical materials, static photographic materials and other optical instruments. Se Metal is also the starting material for manufacturing metal selenide and compound semiconductors. The biggest use of selenium is as an additive to glass. Packing of High Purity Selenium

Standard Packing:

Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum. Solutions are packaged in polypropylene, plastic or glass jars up to palletized 440 gallon liquid totes Special package is available on request.

ATTs’ High Purity Selenium is carefully handled to minimize damage during storage and transportation and to preserve the quality of our products in their original condition.
