Lanthanum Hydroxide (La(OH)3), also called Lanthanum Hydrate, is a white powder that is insoluble in water and soluble in strong mineral acids.

Lanthanum Hydroxide is a highly water insoluble crystalline Lanthanum source for uses compatible with higher (basic) pH environments. Hydroxide, the OH- anion composed of an oxygen atom bonded to a hydrogen atom, is commonly present in nature and is one of the most widely studied molecules in physical chemistry. Hydroxide compounds have diverse properties and uses, from base catalysis to detection of carbon dioxide.

Lanthanum Hydroxide Powder Applications

Lanthanum Hydroxide, also called Lanthanum Hydrate, is mainly applied in specialty glass, water treatment, and catalysts. Various compounds of lanthanum and other rare-earth elements (Oxides, Chlorides, etc.) are components of various catalysts, such as petroleum cracking catalysts. Small amounts of Lanthanum is added to steel improves its malleability, resistance to impact, and ductility, whereas the addition of Lanthanum to Molybdenum decreases its hardness and sensitivity to temperature variations. Small amounts of Lanthanum are present in many pool products to remove the Phosphates that feed algae.
