Product Code : RE-SmCo-5N-CU
The blind ended shallow pot magnet is a pot magnet that is generally wider in diameter than it is tall, it consists of a magnet (usually a disc magnet) inside a ferromagnetic (mild steel) cup.
The ferromagnetic cup has no fixing means (no holes, no threads) - it is blind ended. This magnet is meant for press fitting into an application (so it does not require holes or threads to connect to it). The blind ended shallow pot magnet can sometimes (not often) also be used for applications where is clamps to a ferromagnetic surface and it is not meant to be easily removed (it is deliberately meant to be difficult to get a hold of for trying to remove).

SmCo Magnet Approximate Pull Info
Coatings, rust, rough surfaces, and certain environmental conditions can significantly reduce the pull force. Please be sure to test the actual pull in your actual application. For critical applications, it is suggested that the pull be de-rated by a factor of 2 or more, depending on the severity of a potential failure.
Safety Precautions for Samarium Cobalt Magnets
SmCo magnets are hard, very brittle and high in magnetic strength. They can also snap together with great force, and chip or break if dropped. Therefore, they require careful handling and packing in order to prevent injuries or damages to the magnets.

· Cryogenic applications
Advantages & Disadvantages of Samarium Cobalt Magnets (SmCo)
Advantages
· Can be used in extremely cold conditions (e.g. to a few Kelvin above absolute zero).
· SmCo can be used up to +300 degrees C (572F); the H rated versions up to +350 degrees C (662F).
· High coercivity (Hci) to resist demagnetisation.
· Above +150 to +180 degrees C (302-356F) the SmCo magnet starts to offer more performance than NdFeB magnet grades.
· SmCo is regarded as being corrosion resistant.
· Very low field strength change with varying temperature.
Disadvantages
· Sm2Co17 should be given a protective coating when in very damp conditions to minimise any surface corrosion risk (Sm1Co5 does not rust as it contains no iron).
· Generally higher cost than NdFeB.
All magnets are brittle but SmCo magnet is the most brittle.
Packing of Samarium Cobalt Shallow Pot Magnets
Standard Packing:
Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum. Solutions are packaged in polypropylene, plastic or glass jars up to palletized 440 gallon liquid totes Special package is available on request.
ATTs’ Samarium Cobalt Shallow Pot Magnets are carefully handled to minimize damage during storage and transportation and to preserve the quality of our products in their original condition.
