Neodymium Oxide (Nd2O3) Powder

Neodymium oxide (Nd2O3) is an important, naturally abundant and highly reactive rare earth metal oxide. Nd2O3 powder has a hexagonal crystal structure and a blueish-white color. The high melting point of the material is around 2300°C. Nd2O3 is not only thermally stable but also is rather hygroscopic and water-insoluble. Remarkable optical, electrical, and chemical properties of Nd2O3 have been utilized in various different applications. Neodymium oxide powder has especially attracted attention in photonic applications such as phosphors providing yellow-to-violet upconversion emission. In addition to photonic applications, Nd2O3 powder is utilized as additives for coloring and enhancing the optical properties of glasses. It is also used as an effective semiconductor material in diodes, as components for high temperature ceramics and superconductors. Catalytic properties of Nd2O3 powder is utilized in oxidative coupling of methane, N2 decomposition, dehydrogenation of alcohols. Other application areas of Nd2O3 are solid-sate lasers, high temperature ceramics, superconductors, and protective coatings.

ATT special offers Nano Neodymium Oxide Powder, the particle size can be sub-microns. Nano Nd2O3 is a kind of lavender solid powder, which is easy to be damped and absorbs carbon dioxide in the air. It is insoluble in water but soluble in inorganic acid. The crystal structure of Nd2O3 has three types: cubic, triangular and hexagonal. Compared with the traditional Nd2O3, due to the nano size structure and surface of Nd2O3 nano particles, they show the characteristics that the conventional materials do not have in magnetism, optics, electricity and so on.

Neodymium Oxide (Nd2O3) Powder Application

Used in the production of various coloring pigments.

Used to dope glass.

Used to produce solid-state lasers and enamels.

Used as a polymerization catalyst.

Neodymium Oxide, also called Neodymium, is mainly used for glass and capacitors. Colors glass delicate shades ranging from pure violet through wine-red and warm gray. Light transmitted through such glass shows unusually sharp absorption bands. The glass is used in astronomical work to produce sharp bands by which spectral lines may be calibrated. Glass containing neodymium is a laser material in place of ruby to produce coherent light. Adding 1.5% – 2.5% nano neodymium oxide to magnesium alloy or aluminum alloy can improve high temperature performance, air tightness and corrosion resistance of the alloy, which is widely used as aerospace materials.
