Scandium is one of the most potent alloying elements found on the Periodic Table. It is a silvery - white metal which turns into a yellow or pink tint as it is exposed to air. Scandium Metal is a quite soft element but it is a chemically stable and lustrous metal.

When added to other Aluminum alloys Scandium can greatly increase the strength and reduce the grain size of that alloy. Scandium / Aluminum Alloys have been widely used in the aerospace industry.

ATT specializes in producing high purity Shot and irregular shaped Scandium Pieces with the highest possible density 99.9+% Ultra-High Purity Metallic Pieces and smallest possible average grain sizes. ATT casts any of the rare earth metals and most other advanced materials into rod, bar, or plate form, as well as other machined shapes and through other processes such as nanoparticles and in the form of solutions and organometallics. We also produce Scandium as rod, ingot, powder, pellets, disc, granules, wire, and in compound forms, such as oxide. Other shapes are available by request.

Scandium Application

Scandium Metal is applied in various superalloys which show excellent metallic performance with their light gravity. The main application of Scandium by weight is in Scandium-Aluminium alloys for minor aerospace industry components. They were used in the Russian military aircraft, specifically the MiG-21 and MiG-29. Some items of sports equipment, which rely on high-performance materials, have been made with Scandium-Aluminium alloys. Employed in solid-state synthesis of unusual clusters, Sc19Br28Z4, (Z=Mn, Fe, Ru, or Os). These clusters are of interest for their structure and magnetic properties.

Standard Packing:

Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum. Solutions are packaged in polypropylene, plastic or glass jars up to palletized 440 gallon liquid totes Special package is available on request.
