Product Code : ME-Ta-5N-BR
ATT’s tantalum rods are manufactured by cold rolling large diameter tantalum ingots into smaller diameters and performing intermediate anneals to recrystallize the metal before repeating the process. This process guarantees that the metallurgy of the rod is uniform. The tantalum rods and bars are typically centerless ground to ensure a smooth uniform surface.
All tantalum rods and tantalum bar follow ASTM B365. And we can provide tantalum rods/bar with purity above 99.9% and various diameters and lengths.

Tantalum is a shiny silver-colored metal that is heavy, dense, ductile, and malleable when pure. It is found in small amounts in minerals (usually with niobium) and is separated by conversion to oxides and then to the fluorine complex K2TaF₇, from which the pure metal is then obtained by electrolysis. Due to the formation of an oxide film, Tantalum is extremely corrosion-resistant and is also resistant to acids (except HF). At high temperatures it reacts with molten alkalis and a variety of non-metals. Tantalum can be used as a substitute for platinum in laboratory equipment, which must have good corrosion resistance, and for similar reasons the metal is also used in the chemical industry. Fluids in the human body do not react with the metal, so its use in surgical implants does not cause rejection. Other applications include the use of tantalum carbide in cemented carbides used as cutting tools. The pure metal is used in the electronics industry to make various types of electronic devices (e.g. rectifiers, capacitors, filaments, etc.). Tantalum is also used in vacuum systems because of its high absorption of residual gases. It is also used as an alloying element, for example with nickel and molybdenum to produce alloys with good corrosion resistance, strength and ductility. * Sputtering gun barrels
Computer disk manufacturers and other industries using sputtering processes are increasingly adopting tantalum to resist corrosion in sputtering gun barrels. The tantalum lining process is more environmentally efficient than chromium lining, helping industries reduce their ecological impact.
* Machined fasteners
Machined fasteners fabricated from tantalum offer superior corrosion resistance. They replace fasteners made of alternative materials prone to failure or that require expensive equipment shutdowns for maintenance. Tantalum fasteners appear in industries such as mining, energy, and pharmaceuticals as well as in metal and chemical processing.
* X-ray/radiation shielding
Tantalum’s radio-opaque qualities make it ideal for X-ray and shielding applications seeking to prevent radiation leakage. Tantalum shielding also protects sensitive electronic components in aerospace structures as well as components operating in corrosive environments.
* Vacuum furnace heating elements
Because of tantalum’s oxidation resistance and high melting point, many vacuum furnace components incorporate tantalum bars. Tantalum’s temperature grain stabilization increases machine life expectancy due to its ability to withstand high temperatures for long periods of time.
* Machined parts for chemical processing equipment
Tantalum’s corrosion-resistant properties make it a choice material for machined parts used in chemical processing equipment. Tantalum machined parts replace inferior materials that do not perform as well in harsh chemical environments and require extensive maintenance.
Standard Packing:
Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum. Solutions are packaged in polypropylene, plastic or glass jars up to palletized 440 gallon liquid totes Special package is available on request.
